Guaira Falls was the largest waterfall in the world, with 5x the volume of Niagara. They say you could hear it thundering from 15 miles away.
This dam inundated it. And then they dynamited the rock face of the falls under the surface of the lake so boats could pass.
The director of the company that built the dam was quoted as saying, “We’re not destroying Seven Falls. We’re just going to transfer it to Itaipu Dam, whose spillway will be a substitute for [the falls’] beauty”.
