Not sure why you’ve got “metro” in there – the term “metro” has no impact on what lines are used. The Midland Metro has both tram lines (on roads) and light rail lines (on a segregated ROW), and the Moscow Metro adds underground lines to the mix.
Light rail and rail are generally only differentiated by what rolling stock is used, and the Sheffield Supertram now intends to run light rail stock on normal rail lines, just to confuse things even more!
