I’m not sure what you mean. A funicular or incline is a tram that goes up and down a steep incline. This is an elevator that’s detached from the ground. Yes they serve the same purpose, but they’re still quite different.

Looking at it again, I think I’ve misunderstood what your original comment was about. I thought you meant that they were the same kind of thing, and not just that they served the same purpose.
