The first time I went to NYC was over the Triborough Bridge, and my face was stuck to the bus window the whole way, I was so taken with the Hell’s Gate bridge. A single one of its support piers would be a major landmark if you transplanted it to the state where I grew up, but I had never even heard of it before that.
