Despite this subreddit’s masturbatory overtones about infrastructure, projects are hardly ever done for the sake of building something that one can slowly jerk off to while reading the engineering specs; one of the most important tenets of engineering is to design an efficient solution to a problem, and less a solution seeking a problem to be solved.
I would contend context about the tunnel’s necessity and engineering are just as important as the infrastructure itself. I might add that many other Wikipedia pages on large infrastructure projects do include bits of information on funding sources, needs, and challenges to provide that context and allow one to appreciate the infrastructure on an entirely deeper level.
